Shilajit Guide

Shilajit, also called Mumijo in Russia and Central Asia, is a natural resin from high mountain regions. This guide explains what Shilajit is, what it contains, how it is taken, and how to recognise lab-tested quality.

What is Shilajit (Mumijo)?

Shilajit is a dark, resin-like natural product that forms over long periods in the rock crevices of the Himalaya. It is collected in its original resin form and then purified.

Mumijo is the name used for the same resin in Russia and Central Asia. It has long been used traditionally across several regions of Asia.

What does Shilajit contain?

Shilajit naturally contains fulvic acid and humic substances, plus trace minerals. The exact content varies by origin and batch.

Our current batch measured 69.8 percent fulvic acid by dry weight, as shown in the Eurofins lab report.

Pure resin, powder or capsules?

Shilajit is sold as resin, powder or capsules. We use the pure resin with no additives because it is closest to the original form.

Depending on the maker, powders and capsules contain carriers or fillers. With pure resin you get the natural product without additions.

How is Shilajit taken?

A pea-sized amount, about 300 to 500 mg, is dissolved in warm water, tea or milk and taken once a day. Use the included spoon to measure.

Do not heat Shilajit above body temperature. Food supplements are not a substitute for a balanced and varied diet.

How do you recognise good quality?

Natural products from high mountains can contain heavy metals. Look for a current lab report from an accredited laboratory and clear information on origin and batch.

Every batch of ours is tested by Eurofins, an accredited food laboratory, for heavy metals, microbiology and fulvic acid. The full lab report is available as a PDF.

Frequently asked questions about Shilajit

Is Shilajit the same as Mumijo?

Yes. Mumijo is the name used in Russia and Central Asia for Shilajit. It is the same natural resin.

What does Shilajit taste like?

Shilajit has a strong, earthy and bitter taste. Dissolved in water, tea or milk it becomes much milder.

How should I store Shilajit?

Cool, dry and protected from light. Our resin comes in a black glass jar. Close the jar well after use.

How do I know Shilajit is genuine?

By a current lab report on purity and heavy metals, clear information on origin and batch, and delivery as pure resin without additives.

Pure, Eurofins-tested Himalayan Shilajit as a 20 g resin.
