From the Himalaya to Germany: where our resin comes from

Our Shilajit resin comes from the high altitudes of the Himalaya, where the raw mass is collected from rock crevices and purified before it travels to Germany. Here every batch is tested by an accredited food laboratory for heavy metals and microbiology before it is filled into the 20 g glass jar and shipped. As a buyer you cannot verify an origin claim on its own, but you can check the measured values for your batch number.

"From the Himalaya" is printed on countless Shilajit jars, and it is the claim you can check least. That is why we write down what we can say about the origin of our resin, what such a claim is worth and what you can rely on as a buyer instead. The short version: the resin forms in the high mountains, is collected and purified at source, and is then tested in Germany for heavy metals and germs before it reaches you.

Where Shilajit forms

Shilajit does not grow, it forms. Over very long periods, decomposed plant material in rock crevices of the high mountains turns into a dark, resinous mass. In warm months it seeps out of the rock and is collected by hand. Typical sites lie above the tree line, often above 3,000 metres. For a fuller overview of regions and names, see our article on Mumijo.

Our resin comes from the high altitudes of the Himalaya. We deliberately do not narrow it down to individual valleys or collection points here, because we could not prove it to you, and for any other seller such a detail would be just as unverifiable.

From rock to purified resin

The collected raw mass is not a food. It contains rock particles, sand and plant debris. Purification turns it into the resin that ends up in the jar:

  1. Collecting: the raw mass is taken from rock crevices by hand.
  2. Dissolving: it is dissolved in water so the resin separates from the solid components.
  3. Filtering: rock fragments, sand and plant parts are filtered out.
  4. Thickening: the water is gently removed, leaving the dark, tacky purified resin.

How thoroughly each step was done is not visible in the finished resin. Colour, shine and smell say little about it. For other plausibility checks, see how to recognise genuine Shilajit.

The route to Germany

After purification the resin travels to Germany. This is where an origin claim becomes something checkable: a sample is drawn from the batch and sent to an accredited food laboratory in Germany before the batch goes on sale. The resin is then filled into the light-protected 20 g glass jar and shipped from Germany. Delivery times and costs are on the shipping page.

The company behind HimalayaFIT is Brandilyst UG (haftungsbeschränkt), registered in Vöhringen, Bavaria. Legal responsibility for testing, the batch datasheet and customer service sits there, even though the resin itself forms in the mountains.

What is tested

Every batch is tested for three groups of parameters: heavy metals, microbiology and fulvic acid. The measured values of the current batch HM-SH-25-BLY-1159, analysed on 1 September 2025, at a glance:

Parameter Result Maximum level for food supplements
Lead (Pb) < 2 mg/kg 3.0 mg/kg
Cadmium (Cd) < 0.5 mg/kg 1.0 mg/kg
Mercury (Hg) < 0.01 mg/kg 0.10 mg/kg
Arsenic (As) 0.88 mg/kg no general maximum level
Fulvic acid (dry matter) 69.8 percent, determined by titration not regulated

The maximum levels come from Regulation (EU) 2023/915. It sets no general limit for arsenic in food supplements, so there is no comparison value. How to read these numbers is explained in our article on heavy metals in Shilajit. One caveat belongs here: the fulvic acid determination is not covered by the laboratory's accreditation, while the heavy metal and microbiology analyses are. Background is in the article on fulvic acid.

Why we do not publish the laboratory report

We would like to show the original report. But the laboratory we commissioned contractually does not allow us to publish its report or name it. So we publish the measured values ourselves, with batch number and analysis date, as our own batch datasheet. It is our document, not the laboratory's report. All values are on the lab values page.

How to judge origin with any seller

Neither Mumijo nor Shilajit is a protected designation of origin. A mountain on the label or the phrase "from the Himalaya" proves nothing. These are the details that carry weight:

Detail What it tells you
Region on the label seller's claim, not verifiable
Batch number on jar and document document and product can be matched
Measured values with date and method checkable and comparable
Country and type of testing (accredited) shows how reliable the values are
Stamped seals without measured values say nothing about the contents

If origin matters to you, ask sellers directly: which area does the raw material come from, who purified it, in which country was the batch tested and where do I find the values for my batch number? A seller who knows the supply chain can answer.

In short

  1. Our resin comes from the high altitudes of the Himalaya and is collected and purified there.
  2. In Germany every batch is tested by an accredited food laboratory.
  3. You cannot check the origin claim itself, but you can check the measured values for your batch number.
  4. We may not publish the laboratory's original report, but we do publish the values as a batch datasheet.

The 20 g jar is in the shop, with a batch number and batch datasheet covering the lab values of your batch. For all articles, see the guide overview.

Frequently asked questions

Where does HimalayaFIT Shilajit come from?

The resin comes from the high altitudes of the Himalaya. The raw mass is collected and purified there, then travels to Germany, is tested by an accredited food laboratory and ships from Germany. An origin statement is the seller's own claim; what you can verify is the batch number and the measured values that belong to it.

Why does the German title mention Vöhringen if the resin comes from the Himalaya?

Vöhringen in Bavaria is the registered office of Brandilyst UG (haftungsbeschränkt), the company that runs HimalayaFIT. The resin itself forms in the mountains, not there. The title describes the route from raw material in the high mountains to the company in Germany that is responsible for testing, the batch datasheet and customer service.

How is Shilajit collected and purified?

The raw mass seeps out of rock crevices in warm months and is collected by hand. It contains rock particles, sand and plant debris. To purify it, it is dissolved in water, filtered and gently thickened, leaving the purified resin. You cannot judge how carefully this was done by looking at it, only by the measured values of the batch.

Can I verify where a Shilajit comes from?

Not directly. Neither Mumijo nor Shilajit is a protected designation of origin, and a region on the label is a claim. What you can check is the batch number, the analysis date and the measured values from an accredited laboratory. Also ask sellers who purified the raw material and in which country the batch was tested.

Is every batch tested in Germany?

Yes. Every batch goes to an accredited food laboratory in Germany before sale. It is tested for heavy metals, microbiology and fulvic acid content. For the current batch HM-SH-25-BLY-1159 we publish the measured values as a batch datasheet; we are contractually not allowed to publish the laboratory's original report.
