Shilajit from a German pharmacy: range, price and safety

Yes, Shilajit is available in Germany mainly through online pharmacies, as capsules, resin, paste and gummies (as of 1 November 2026). It is sold there as a food supplement, not as a medicine, so the same rules apply as in a drugstore or an online shop. Buying from a pharmacy only adds safety if the manufacturer provides batch-specific test values; the pharmacy itself does not test the product in a laboratory.

Contents

"Can I get Shilajit at a pharmacy?" is one of the most common questions before a first purchase. Behind it is usually the idea that a product from a pharmacy is better controlled than one from an unknown online shop. This article looks at what German online pharmacies actually offer, what a PZN means, how prices per gram compare and whether buying at a pharmacy really adds safety. It is based on a search for "Shilajit" at Shop Apotheke, one of Germany's large online pharmacies, on 1 November 2026. Ranges and prices change constantly, so check them yourself before buying.

Do German pharmacies sell Shilajit?

Yes, but almost only online. High-street pharmacies (Apotheken) rarely have Shilajit on the shelf. If a product has a PZN, the pharmacy can usually order it through its wholesaler.

Online the range is large. On 1 November 2026 a search for "Shilajit" at Shop Apotheke returned 177 results. These include combination products in which Shilajit is only one of several ingredients, for example alongside ashwagandha, maca or manuka honey.

The 31 products on the first results page broke down by form as follows, as stated by the shop:

Form in the results list Number of products
Capsules (including hard capsules) 15
Described as resin 9
Paste, concentrate or jar not called resin 3
Gummies 1
No clear form stated 3

As of 1 November 2026, first results page. Two of the products called resin are listed with a different form, one as a gel and one as a liquid. The product name alone does not tell you what is in the jar.

In a pharmacy Shilajit is still a food supplement

In Germany Shilajit is sold as a food supplement, not as a medicine. That is true in a pharmacy just as in a drugstore or an online shop. Besides medicines, German pharmacies may sell so-called pharmacy-typical goods (apothekenübliche Waren), and food supplements are among them.

For you this means that a Shilajit product from a pharmacy falls under the same food law as any other. The manufacturer notifies the product to the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL, German only). There is no authorisation and no official test before sale. The manufacturer is responsible for a safe product, and the food control authorities of the German states check by random sampling.

No health claim is authorised for Shilajit in the EU, and that does not change when it sits in a pharmacy.

Does Shilajit have a PZN?

Some Shilajit products have one, most do not. The PZN (Pharmazentralnummer) is an eight-digit article number issued by IFA GmbH, the German information office for pharmaceutical products, on the manufacturer's application. Pharmacies and wholesalers use it to order a product unambiguously.

What a PZN is What a PZN is not
A unique article number for the pharmacy trade An authorisation
What a high-street pharmacy needs to order the product A test seal or proof of quality
Applied for and paid for by the manufacturer A sign of a laboratory analysis

In the Shop Apotheke results list on 1 November 2026, only 3 of the 31 products showed a PZN. A missing PZN does not make a product worse, and having one does not make it better. It only shows that the manufacturer wants to supply the pharmacy channel.

Prices per gram: what resin costs at an online pharmacy

For the seven resin products on the first results page with a clear quantity and price, the picture looks like this:

Pack size Price range Price per gram
30 g EUR 16.95 to 29.95 about EUR 0.57 to 1.00
60 g EUR 17.90 to 19.99 about EUR 0.30 to 0.33

As of 1 November 2026, displayed selling prices. The two products with a different stated form (gel, liquid) are not included.

Price per gram is a start, not a full comparison. Two more points belong to it:

  1. What is in the jar? Some products with "Shilajit" in the name contain honey or other plant extracts. Their price per gram is not comparable with pure resin. The ingredient list tells you.
  2. How much do you use per day? Only the daily amount turns a price per gram into a price per day. How Shilajit prices are made up is explained in what Shilajit costs.

Does buying at a pharmacy add safety?

A pharmacy offers two real advantages: advice from trained staff and a known retailer with clear return routes. If you take medication, the pharmacy can raise possible interactions, which makes sense for any food supplement.

That does not replace a laboratory analysis. A pharmacy does not test a bought-in food supplement for heavy metals itself. Whether a batch stays within the maximum levels is only known if the manufacturer provides the values. For food supplements, Regulation (EU) 2023/915 sets these maximum levels:

Element Maximum level for food supplements
Lead (Pb) 3.0 mg/kg
Cadmium (Cd) 1.0 mg/kg
Mercury (Hg) 0.10 mg/kg
Arsenic (As) no general maximum level

Shilajit is a natural product from rock, which is why these values deserve a close look. More in Shilajit and heavy metals.

Checklist: how to check a product from an online pharmacy

These questions apply to any Shilajit product, whether from a pharmacy, a drugstore or an online shop:

  1. Is it pure Shilajit or a combination product with other ingredients?
  2. Do the product name and the stated form match (resin, powder, capsule)?
  3. How many mg of Shilajit are in the recommended daily serving?
  4. Is there a batch number on the pack?
  5. Are there individual values for lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic for that batch?
  6. Is there a microbiology result for the batch?
  7. If a fulvic acid figure is given, is the test method named?
  8. Is a full manufacturer address in the EU stated?

Points 4 to 7 are usually answered by the manufacturer, not the pharmacy. A short email quoting the batch number is enough. How to recognise genuine resin is covered in how to spot real Shilajit, and more buying criteria are in the Shilajit buying guide.

Where to buy mumijo in Germany

Mumijo is another name for Shilajit, see mumijo. The main routes at a glance:

Where Typical range What to look out for
Online pharmacy Capsules, resin, paste, combination products Large range from many manufacturers, ask the manufacturer for values
High-street pharmacy Ordered via PZN Only products with a PZN, advice available
dm and Rossmann Extract capsules No resin in the range
Marketplaces Very broad range Check manufacturer details especially carefully
Specialist online shops Often resin Check batch number and test values

For comparison, our own details: we sell Shilajit resin in a 20 g jar for EUR 34.00, which is EUR 1.70 per gram, batch HM-SH-25-BLY-1159. At 400 mg a day one jar lasts 50 days of use, followed by 10 days of rest. The jar has no PZN and is not sold in pharmacies. Every batch is tested by a food laboratory in Germany accredited for heavy metals and microbiology; the fulvic acid figure is determined titrimetrically, measured in our batch. All values are in the batch datasheet and on the lab values page. The jar is in the shop, delivery times and costs are on the shipping page, and more articles are in the guide section.

Food supplements are not a substitute for a balanced and varied diet.

Frequently asked questions

Do German pharmacies sell Shilajit?

Yes, mostly online. On 1 November 2026 a search for Shilajit at the German online pharmacy Shop Apotheke returned 177 results, including capsules, resin, paste, gummies and combination products with other ingredients. A high-street pharmacy rarely keeps Shilajit in stock but can usually order it if the product has a PZN. Legally it is a food supplement in both cases, not a medicine.

Where can I buy mumijo in Germany?

Mumijo is another name for Shilajit. In Germany it is sold by online pharmacies, by the drugstore chains dm and Rossmann (capsules only), on large marketplaces and by specialist online shops, which often offer resin. For quality, where you buy matters less than what the manufacturer discloses: a batch number, heavy metal values for that batch and a full address in the EU.

Is the Shilajit at Shop Apotheke or DocMorris any good?

The sales channel says little about the quality of a Shilajit product. Online pharmacies carry products from many different manufacturers, and the same questions apply to each: how much Shilajit is in the daily serving, is there a batch number, and does the manufacturer provide values for lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic for that batch? A fair judgement is only possible per product and per batch.

Is Shilajit from a pharmacy safer?

Not automatically. In Germany food supplements are notified to the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL), but they are not authorised or tested in advance, wherever they are sold. The manufacturer is responsible for a safe product. A pharmacy can advise you and raise interactions with medicines you take, but that does not replace a laboratory analysis of the batch.

What does Shilajit resin cost at an online pharmacy?

The resin products on the first results page at Shop Apotheke cost between EUR 16.95 and EUR 29.95 for 30 to 60 g on 1 November 2026, roughly EUR 0.30 to EUR 1.00 per gram. Prices only become comparable once you convert them to a daily amount and check whether the product is pure resin or a blend with other ingredients.
